With the impending implementation of The Cannabis Act, the federal regulations which govern Canadians’ access to medical cannabis are about to change. Part of these changes include the implementation of a $1/gram (or 10 per cent of sale price) excise tax on all medical cannabis products.

We recognize that, for many patients, affordability can become a barrier to access to medication. As such, this excise tax will cause undue hardship and an unnecessary barrier to access for medical cannabis patients. We believe Canadians who have come to rely on medical cannabis should not be affected by changes brought on by Canada’s recreational cannabis program.

Upon passage of the Cannabis Act on October 17, 2018, Organigram will cover the cost of the $1/gram (or 10 per cent of sale price) excise tax on medical cannabis products for all registered Organigram patients to ensure their costs do not increase.

Following our first announcement regarding plans to supply the recreational cannabis market in September 2017, we reaffirmed our commitment to supply Organigram patients first. A set supply of core cannabis products, including whole flower, premium blends and edible oils, have been allocated for Organigram patients to ensure they never see a shortage and are always able to access their medication.
